If we observe nature, we may notice how each season has it’s virtues. Autumn is the season of transformation. In autumn, we may observe how, as the trees loose their leaves, they give back to mother earth.
Season of Transformation
Transformation is the process of change, from one form, structure and hence function to another. We can transform by letting go. Just as, in autumn, the trees let-go of their leaves, they alter their appearance and hence how they function. Trees shed their leaves to help reduce water loss and energy expenditure during the colder months. They survive without their leaves by going into a state of dormancy. They slow down their metabolism and growth, and rely on internally stored nutrients from the previous growth season.
We may often think of transformation as only, like a caterpillars turning into a butterfly. We often see how this happens as there is growth, from an immature to a more mature stage. However, there’s always another side of the coin. Autumn is when nature goes more into maintenance mode. As we are a reflection of nature, we may observe how this the season for us to also turn around from growth and surrender into a more passive, preservation mode.
Living with the Seasons
Now-a-days, most people are just so busy, pounding away on the treadmill at full speed, to take notice of the seasonal changes. The quality of our relationship with nature reflects how well we care about our-self. If we’re not intimate with our relationship with nature, we’re not loving themselves..
Interestingly, throughout our history, each season has been seen linked to specific holidays or cultural traditions. Often, these would be festivities around harvesting. Many cultures would celebrate the likes of family reunions, time of reflection and appreciation around the full moon and so on. Autumn may be considered as being akin to sunset. It’s the time to sit back and reflect, with appreciation and gratitude of the closing of the past summer.
The Cycles of Nature
We may observe, upon reflection how everything in nature has a specific cycle or frequency. We have the days, the moon cycles and the seasons. It may be a powerful time, at autumn, as the end of the active phase of the year to practice some form of reflection. Perhaps it’s also an opportunity to contemplate on what we’ve achieved since spring. As we reflect, we may be grateful for the many gifts that we have been blessed with by nature.
Autumn is the season that marks the division between summer and winter. Just as 6pm is half way between day and night. It’s the time to pay our respects to the waning sunlight, as we store our harvest of this year’s crops. Also to take a moment to honour the impending colder and darker season of winter. It’s the season of transition from an outer to a more inner awareness. With this, it’s also the season to journey more-so to within our subconscious.
Tools for Transformation
Life doesn’t need to be so difficult. Holding on can actually hurt us so much. For too often, we let negative thoughts and feelings run our life. We may be perceiving that we have we’re holding onto burdens. So often it’s about money, health and relationship problems. However this may be, so much because we’re holding onto limited beliefs. Letting go is actually such an easy, natural ability. It’s so easy, because we already have it within us. Yet it’s mainly our resistance that causes the problems. It may be feelings of fear, procrastination, inability to trust.
We may benefit in so many ways by letting go. As we let go we may release tension from our body. We may be more open to accepting new opportunities. Hence allowing change into our life. These different possibilities may hep us with the many issues that we are holding onto. Interestingly, as we let go of stress, tension and anxiety we may also eliminate the root cause of our many problems. We may then find greater peace, relaxation, joy, and love in our life.
Your Next Step
So what if what you really want is actually blocked because of what you’re holding onto? Remember, our convictions hold us captive and imprison us. So many of these limiting concepts are held on in our mind, yet can have such a limiting effect in our whole life. So often, we’re replaying old events as if they’re still real. As we choose to let-go of resistance, comes freedom and a new found sense of adventure.
