Well, once again, ‘Fair Dinkum Aussies’ join others from around the world to celebrate the good ol’ Irish ‘St Patricks Day’, with a few jugs of warm green beer. ( actually usually just any excuse for some grogg and a party!)
Yet what is this really all about? Well its generally acknowledged that Saint Patrick was the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland who is credited with bringing christianity to Ireland.
Most of what is known about him comes from his works, the Confessio, a spiritual autobiography, and his Epistola, a denunciation of British mistreatment of Irish christians.
Generally these days, around the world, St Patrick’s Day has come to be just associated about the Irish.
Yet, for those who celebrate its origionally intended meaning, St. Patrick’s Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.
March 17th is said to be e day that St. Patrick died. Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations.
Any celebration is more powerful as we know the true origion, meaning, intent of the celebration.
