Most people consider that stress is the underlying cause of most of their problems. And most people agree that among the greatest of stressors today are time and money, or more accurately the lack of it. However, with my ongoing research, I’ve discovered something that sounds surprisingly unbelievable. The underlying cause is not really so much ‘stress’, it’s actually, more so about how we react to situations in our life. What if these reactions are merely a reflection of our consciousness?
The Stress Myth
If we look a little deeper, along with the latest research into stress these days, with the likes of Dr Serge Doublet Ph D, with his book, ‘The Stress Myth’, it’s telling us that the concept of stress is actually a myth. You see, we find out that it was Dr Hans Selye, who was a European Doctor, and an endocrinologist, that actually adopted the term ‘stress’ and popularised it to as we now use it today. You see, as strange as it may seem, less than 100 years ago there actually wasn’t this notion of this thing that we call ‘stress’ that we have today. So, history tells us, Doctor Hans Searle who coined the term, in the 1930’s was really the first who started using this term ‘stress’ for us.
The Key to Beating Stress
As Dr Hans Selye adopted the term ‘stress’ from engineering, he didn’t take a very crucial aspect into consideration. This is simply that inorganic materials don’t have the ability to respond. If one rock hits another rock, it causes an effect. However, as organic, living organisms we have the ability to respond. We have the ability to sense what’s happening and then choose how to respond to the situation. With a conscious response, we can therefore adapt and learn resiliance. Instead, we’ve bought into stress as a nominalisation, a ‘zombie’ or ‘fuzzy’ noun, something we can blame for all of our problems instead of embracing responsibility. So, when we seem to be suffering from what is called ‘stress’, it’s actually more so the signs we see and the symptoms we experience as a result of our poor reaction to our various challenges. Hence we need to learn how to respond to challenges better. The key is to beating stress, is rather than being locked into a myth, is to be open to embracing our experience and choosing our interpretation of an event, and learn how to respond to it better.
Solutions for Living a Happier Life
Sadly, so many people now-a-days spend most of their time doing what they don’t want to do, and consequently can’t find to time to do what they truly want to do. They’re constantly pushing uphill, straining against the gain, struggling against the current and fighting resistance. Hence, so many people are suffering stress, pain and fatigue.
In numerous ways, these days so many people are distracted in a crazy rat race in which there seems there’s no real winner. We may see faster cars, more powerful computers, more complex lifestyles, more rules and regulations to abide by. Yet, at the same time, more and more people are seeking ways to get off the crazy tread mill.
